Mrs. Jennifer Boreson
English Department
Roosevelt High School
Johnstown, CO 80534
Dear Mrs. Boreson,
As my senior year comes to a close, I am planning on applying for a significant amount of scholarships. I would appreciate it greatly if you would write a recommendation letter for me that will show the general things that I have accomplished in my academic career. Because I have taken two classes from you here at Roosevelt, you know the quality of my academic work, as well as my qualities as a person.
As my instructor coach for speech and expository writing classes, you are familiar with my grades, work ethic, and study habits. I think you have a good sense of whether or not I should be eligible to receive financial aid. I have been able to maintain a 3.5 GPA, along with three semesters of perfect attendance. I have participated in the extra curricular activities of 1 year of football, 4 years of basketball, and 2 years of track. While participating in these I was able to work 13 months at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this letter for me. Let me know if you need any more information (rauleezy@hotmail.com ).
Sincerely,
Raul Martinez

College Essay 1

Submit an online short written response (250 words or less) for the question:
“What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?”
“What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?”
My immediate response to the opinion of a person who believes education doesn’t matter would be to have them look around. The way world economics are today, not only is it necessary to attend college, but it may very soon become critical. In order to live a lifestyle that we are accustomed to today, we have to move along with new standards so we can continue to live this way tomorrow. Prices for goods and services continue to rise, but the salaries for lower class jobs remain the same. If you do not move forward with the world, you’ll stay left behind possibly in poverty.
The value of an education is much more than a degree. It is an opportunity to live a fulfilling lifestyle, and bring along everyone that is close to you. It may take a lot of money now, but looking back it will be a fraction of what you can be earning with a college degree.
